Ten Bucks a Ticket Movie Reviews: Recommendations with a Personal Touch pt.1

[28 Apr 2006 | Friday]

You know me. Maybe we met at some party. Maybe we've hung at drunk together. maybe we just work with one another. Whatever the case may be, you know that if you were to ask me the wrong question, my answer could spiral down into an unstoppable diatribe on any number of subjects. Hey, that's who I am. Some people build chairs, some people teach the young and guide thm along their treacherous paths into adulthood, I talk.

That being said, I'd like to give you a bit of me and let you into Alex's world perhaps just a bit further than you might have ventured on your own. Now this is by no means an Alex's Best of the Best list. This simple list is more of a, "Hey, if you haven't seen these flicks, then maybe you should"-list. Enjoy.

Comedy

Two Ninas. It's you're classic romantic comedy, but here's the qualifier: that's Ron Livingston.... from Swingers.... and Office Space. It's essentially the story of a guy, on a pseudo-quest to eventually find love, that happens to run into two different girls that make him feel amazing, and they both happen to be named Nina. That eiter sounded really interesting or incredibly droll. I can't tell which either, so just trust me on this one and give it a try.

Wet Hot American Summer. It's from the people who brought you MTV's The State! .....and Reno 911.... well, if you don't know who the fuck I'm talking about, then I advise you to douse yourself in lighter fluid and send up all those lost hopes and prayers in a cloud of black smoke.

Drama

Apt Pupil. Before Sir Ian McKellen became the old man with a dastardly evil behind his eyes in just about every big movie known to man, the legend started out here.... as a kindly old man who just so happens to be a former Nazi officer. See it. Love it. Be frightened at the true nature of evil.

Poolhall Junkies. This is reall my type of guys' movie. It's sorta like Rounders but for billiards. .....  ........ That's really about all their is to say about PHJ.... Oh yeah, Christopher Walken is in it. So Now, you're all interested, huh?? "Babies, by the time I'm done with you, you'll all be wearing golden diapers!"
